PSYCHOTHERAPY & COUNSELLING IN OTTAWA & ACROSS CANADA

Psychotherapy & Counselling

A Place to Be Understood

At Lightstone, psychotherapy is collaborative, practical, and grounded in the belief that meaningful change is possible — even when life has become overwhelming, relationships feel stuck, or past experiences continue to shape the present.

Care is tailored to each person’s needs, strengths, values, and lived experience, with in-person appointments available in Ottawa and virtual psychotherapy available across Canada where permitted.

A Grounded, Collaborative Approach

Therapy at Lightstone is built around collaboration rather than prescription. The goal is not simply to reduce symptoms, but to understand what is happening, identify what matters most, and develop practical ways forward that fit the person rather than forcing the person to fit a particular model.

Jordan draws from trauma-informed, cognitive-behavioural, solution-focused, narrative, existential, relational, and other evidence-informed approaches while remaining attentive to each person’s strengths, values, relationships, culture, and sense of purpose.

His 16 years of service in the Canadian Armed Forces also inform his understanding of military culture, identity, transition, operational experiences, and family life. For clients who want faith to be part of therapy, Christian beliefs, Scripture, prayer, meaning, and vocation can be thoughtfully integrated into the therapeutic process. The degree and form of faith integration are always guided by the client.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Psychotherapy for the Challenges You’re Facing

People come to psychotherapy for many different reasons — sometimes because of a specific problem or painful experience, and sometimes because something in life, relationships, identity, or direction no longer feels sustainable. Lightstone offers several areas of psychotherapy services and counselling that can be adapted to your needs, goals, values, and circumstances.

Individual Psychotherapy

Support for anxiety, depression, stress, grief, anger, emotional regulation, self-esteem, identity, relationships, major life transitions, and other concerns affecting how you feel and function.

Trauma & Complex Trauma

Psychotherapy for PTSD, complex trauma, difficult past experiences, triggers, and patterns that continue to affect emotions, relationships, identity, or everyday life. Treatment may incorporate EMDR and other evidence-informed approaches as appropriate.

Premarital Counselling

Structured counselling for couples preparing for marriage, with attention to communication, conflict, expectations, family influences, intimacy, finances, roles, values, and the future you are building together.

Couples & Relationship Therapy

Helping couples understand recurring patterns, repair relationship injuries, strengthen communication, rebuild connection, and navigate challenges affecting the relationship.

Separation, Divorce & Family Court Support

Therapeutic support for the emotional and relational impact of separation, divorce, co-parenting, parenting through separation, and family-court stress. This work does not replace legal advice, mediation, or parenting assessment.

Men, Identity & Purpose

A space for men to explore identity, responsibility, purpose, relationships, emotional expression, fatherhood, work, values, life transitions, and the expectations that can shape men’s lives.

Military, Veteran & Family Life

Military-informed psychotherapy addressing service experiences, transition, identity, relationships, purpose, operational experiences, and the wider impact of military life on serving members, Veterans, and families.

Christian-Integrated Psychotherapy

Evidence-informed psychotherapy that can thoughtfully incorporate Christian faith, Scripture, prayer, meaning, vocation, and spiritual concerns when desired. Integration is collaborative rather than prescriptive.

What Happens When You Reach Out?

Starting therapy can involve a lot of uncertainty. These first steps are designed to make the process clearer and help determine whether working together is the right fit.

1

Start with a Fit Conversation

A complimentary 15-minute conversation allows us to briefly discuss what brings you to therapy, what you are looking for, and whether working together appears to be a good fit.

2

Begin with an Initial Session

The first full session focuses on understanding your concerns, relevant history, strengths, priorities, and what you would like to change or work toward.

3

Develop the Way Forward Together

From there, we collaboratively determine the therapeutic approach, priorities, and pace that best fit your needs and goals.

Planning Your Psychotherapy

A few practical details can help you understand how to begin, what to expect around fees and coverage, and whether a brief fit consultation may be useful.

15-min Fit Consultation

Complimentary

A brief conversation can help clarify what you are looking for, whether Lightstone may be a good fit, and which psychotherapy pathway may make the most sense. If another type of service or professional appears better suited to your needs, we can discuss that openly as well.

Note: this is not an actual psychotherapy session.
